Six songs from the great heritage of Jewish songs, beautifully set by Joseph Dechario, Professor of Music in the School of Performing Arts at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Dr. Dechario is a pianist, teacher and arranger whose performances cover a broad range of materials, including the keyboard literature of the Baroque period, the standard piano repertoire of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, contemporary twentieth century music and modern jazz. He holds music degrees from the University of Kansas, the University of Illinois and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa, with further study at the Royal College of Music in London as a Fulbright Scholar. Among his teachers have been Soulima Stravinsky, Webster Aitken and John Simms. As a former member of the Rockefeller Center for New Music at the University of Iowa, the University of Illinois Contemporary Players and the Royal College of Music Contemporary Music Society, he has performed at the Warsaw Autumn Festival (Poland), and the Darmstadt Festival of New Music (Germany). Dr. Dechario has also recorded for the B.B.C, Irish Radio and Radio Cologne.
These songs are set for medium voice and harp or piano. The harp editings were made by Barbara Dechario, who with singer Martha Rock Birnbaum, is featured on a recent CD recording (and cassette tape) with the same title, TIMELESS JEWISH SONGS. The recording contains additional songs not included in this publication.
