Volume two of The Songs of Richard Faith is now available in the High Voice edition, as well as Volume III in High Voice. We plan to release low voice editions for Volumes II and III in a few more months. The Notes to the Songs were edited by Associate Editor, Dr. William J. Lavonis, Professor of Voice at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and, as in Volume I, portions of the commentary is taken from his doctoral dissertation, The Songs of Richard Faith. A long-time enthusiast of Faith’s songs, Dr. Lavonis has been instrumental in helping implement a generous grant from the Chautauqua Institution for the typesetting of the music for volumes I and II.
From 1961 until his retirement in 1989, Faith was in residence at the University of Arizona in Tucson as Professor of Piano. Recognized nationally as a composer for pedagogical works for piano, he has won awards every year since 1981 from ASCAP for his compositions. In addition to Leyerle Publications, he has other projects published by Shawnee Press, Belwin Mills, Southern Music Company and Alfred Publishing Company. That he is still very active as a composer is evinced by the Mother Goose Lyrics. These were composed recently after the urging of some of his colleagues who noticed in Mr. Faith a certain easy-going trait, to set something "a bit lighter." These will be especially accessible to younger singers.
