      THE COMPLETE PUCCINI LIBRETTI
      In Two Volumes
      By Nico Castel
      Edited by Marcie Stapp

The internationally acclaimed tenor and multi-lingual diction teacher for the Metropolitan Opera Company, Professor Nico Castel, has completed all the operatic libretti of Giacomo Puccini [*except Turandot, which will not be available until the year 2022].

These are Italian operatic libretti with a big difference from any previously done. They include the Leyerle Three-line Phonetic-Translation System consisting of the International Phonetic Alphabet spelling of the libretti on the first line, the original Italian language on the middle line (in bold type), and the word-for-word English translation on the third line. When further explication of an otherwise difficult to understand passage in the word-for-word translation is needed, a fourth line, presented in a more literary translation, is also given. In addition, Professor Castel provides synopses of the entire operas, vocal categories and names of the casts, translations of the stage directions and other significant information which would be helpful to the opera singer, advanced voice student, vocal coach, stage director, music director and all opera lovers who might not actually take an active part in opera production. Foreword by Sherrill Milnes

Volume I of the Puccini Libretti contains: La Bohème; Edgar; La Fanciulla del West; Madama Butterfly, and Manon Lescaut.

      Foreword by Sherrill Milnes

In his Foreword to this volume, Sherrill Milnes states: I'm only sorry that this work wasn't available when I was a young singer as it would have made my operatic life much easier. I believe this book will become a classic with students, teachers and professionals alike and I welcome its publication with great enthusiasm. I look forward to Nico's Verdi and Mozart series with equal anticipation."
